If you missed my post the other day, I had mention If you missed my post the other day, I had mentioned that my family and I packed up the bare essentials and moved across the world to the United Kingdom this past month.
It’s an adventure that we’re embracing and significantly growing from all at the same time.
Right now, we’re staying at an Airbnb while we look for our new home, settle Jenson into his new school and get vital things like bank accounts and business numbers set in place.
When we decided to make this move we sold a majority of all our belongings and can I tell you, it felt AMAZING.
To rid old energy and let go of material items that have a hold of you is so freeing.
It allowed us to focus on the things that matter most and reset our priorities which has given us more freedom, time and ironically less stress.
Without the abundance of toys, we’ve been much more creative in activities for Jenson.
We've of course downloaded an abundance of free resources like the exercises, mediations, mantras and affirmations we have on the Spiritual Books For Children website.
We’ve also been exploring the streets, national parks and castles of our new home and become more focused as a family on spending valuable time together, instead of relying on material items or purchased entertainment.
So today I encourage you to do a few things:
💜Schedule in more quality family time
💙Purge as many items as you can and live more minimalist
💜Stop entertaining your children with material items
💙Learn and teach your family how to enjoy simple pleasures
💜Explore more
💙Individually and together, figure out what strengthens your spiritual health.
Also, if you’re looking for free activities to do with your children don’t forget we have an abundance of them on our website, just head over to www.spiritualbooksforchildren.ca

Let’s be honest… There are very few things in Let’s be honest…
There are very few things in life that reveal our fears, anxieties and wounds the way parenting does.
It can really be a playing field of emotions and triggers where the pressure to “be perfect” or “do it right” can sometimes get the best of us.
We’ve been given the education on how to be great in the workforce or as academic students, but no one prepares you for parenthood and for many of us, we had little modeling of what healthy parenting looked like.
So how do we as parents, not become the wounded parents that we were brought up by?
We have to actively solve our own wounds first.
Here are a few strategies I have used that might help this healing process.
1. Apologize. At the end of the day we’re all human. If you’ve dismissed your child’s feelings, lost your temper or made them feel invisible, start by forgiving yourself then apologize to them. That apology is a message of love and shows them that whatever has happened it was not their fault, but in fact your own insecurity.
2. Be transparent. When you share your battle wounds it gives them context to your reactivity. Of course be wise with how much you share and make sure it’s age-appropriate, but if they have an understanding they will no longer absorb that shame, guilt or responsibility.
3. Model The Behaviour. You can help your children become emotionally illiterate while also healing your own wounds by talking through appropriate reactions and emotional responses to certain situations. When you can articulate that there are no “bad” emotions, they can start to recognize and accept their own emotions when they show up. Cultivate an environment where all emotions are accepted and can be talked about freely.
If you’re reading through these and feeling overwhelmed, take heart that it’s never too late to repair work with your children, change your own patterns and heal wounds.
I send you love and support on this journey of healing your own wounds first as a parent so that you can fully show up for your children.
My inbox is always open if you have any questions.
Have you taken the time as an adult to heal your i Have you taken the time as an adult to heal your inner child?
Emotions whether they’re positive or “negative” are meant to be experienced and then expressed, however sometimes they can be repressed and eventually show up down the line, often in unhelpful ways.
Your inner child is often a direct representation of yourself throughout your developmental stages and if it was a positive experience then a symbol of youthfulness, joy and fun.
If your childhood was associated with neglect, pain or trauma then your inner child might be hurt, vulnerable and in need of healing.
If you’ve repressed those feelings then it often surfaces in your adult life through distress in relationships, not meeting your own needs or distancing yourself from activities, people or situations that could bring you joy.
How do you begin the work of healing your inner child?
Here’s a handful of ways to start:
Acknowledge and Listen To Your Inner Child. After years of neglect it’s time to open the door to connection and listen to what comes through. Feelings, emotions or triggers might surface and that’s a wonderful thing, as it's an opportunity to acknowledge and release them.
Write A Letter or Journal: To open a dialogue with your inner child, start writing to them. This could be through a letter or on-going journal entries, however you can connect with them and share your messages of comfort and reassurance will help facilitate the healing process.
Meditation & Visualization: Sitting in stillness with your inner child or visually visiting them and caring for them are two powerful methods of healing. When you’re meditating be open to receiving messages or allowing emotions to spill over, validating those feelings to then express them in healthy ways. At the end of each visualization or meditation, make sure you send love, praise, recognition and kindness towards your inner child to further nurture them.
It’s never too late to heal your inner child and as a parent it’s a powerful resource to help you learn how to express emotion in healthy ways, increase self-compassion and heal any feelings that interfere with being the best version of yourself as a caregiver.

Parenting is a very emotional experience. Staying Parenting is a very emotional experience.
Staying calm in a difficult situation can be extra challenging especially when those interactions trigger our own feelings of anger, helplessness or frustration.
So what do we do when our child is being difficult?
▫️Take a deep breath and pause: When you take a moment to collect yourself and breathe deeply before responding, you’re giving yourself the space and time to answer in a calm manner.
▫️Change your perspective: Understand that all emotions are acceptable coming from children because most of the time they’re acting their own age. Our own personal feelings of annoyance or trying to control situations are about us, not them. Let your children be a kid and don’t blame them for their behavior.
▫️Focus on the good: Calm can be contagious, especially within a family setting. When you worry and try to control your child, they will come to believe that something is wrong with them. Instead, praise their actions and fill your home with words of positivity and affirmation, which will in turn show them how to master a life skill.
Using the calming tools of pausing, breathing, changing your perspective and focusing on the good allows you to take responsibility for your own emotions and your children will likely do the same.
Do you have any tools that you use to navigate the world of dealing with a child in a difficult situation? I’d love to hear them below.
